Second Grade Wrote Realistic Fiction Books

In Writing Workshop we covered a unit on Writing Realistic Fiction Writing. We poured over many different realistic fiction books, to gain a better understanding on what kind of writing it is. We learned about writing in first person, and third person. Finally, we were ready to write. This piece of writing was a labor of love. The kids had to use their little notebooks, call Fizzle Boxes to write their ideas. The made lists of possible characters, settings, character traits, problems, and solutions. Once they finished that part, they had to start writing their stories. It was not an easy task, but they sat day after day and used their creative minds to write a story that is made up, but could really happen. I was amazed at the descriptive language, and dialogue they used in their stories. The next step was to edit and revise. Throughout the whole process, the kids kept working, and trying.. It was all their hard work that produced amazing pages upon pages of Realistic Fiction Writing. Last Friday we had a publishing party, where each child was able to read what they wrote.

Thank you Morah Esty for making delicious cupcakes for the class treat. :)
