Phonics Fun

In Phonics we are working on different combinations of letter sounds. As we were working on the ar/or/ore sounds, the kids had a chance to come up and write their own words.

Measuring...

In Math we covered another Unit on Measuring. The kids learned about non-standard units of measurement. The used erasers, crayons,pens, paper clips to measure various objects around the classroom. Then they learned about the centimeter, foot, and inch. For each of these measurements the kids were partnered with another child and had a chance to move around the classroom and practice measuring with each one.

Can You Tell Time?

In Math we recently covered a unit on telling time. The best way to learn how to tell time is to get a hands on experience. I was lucky enough to find these clocks, and laminated them. The kids practiced writing and telling time with partners throughout the course of this unit.

Writer's Workshop Publishing Party

In Writer's Workshop the kids spent a long time editing and revising their "My Favorite Memory" piece. After all their hard work we had a small publishing party. Each child had a chance to read their "Favorite Memory" and enjoy a snack. The writing was beautiful. :)

Writer's Workshop

In Writer's Workshop the class was working on their first piece of writing to publish. The topic was "My Favorite Memory." The class went through the process of writing their first draft, editing, and revising. This year is Writer's Workshop the second grade will learn how to write in paragraph form, and how to add lots of details. As the kids were writing it was such a pleasure to see how excited and eager they were to learn more about the writing process, and to add more details. I found that the writing element they liked the most was writing in paragraphs.
